The remainder of Revelation is God’s response to the cry of the slain.
A. Babylon falls (Rev 18–19)
The corrupted covenant community is exposed and judged.
B. Gog–Magog is consumed (Rev 20:8–9)
The lukewarm multitude (Magog) and the inner ruler of pride (Gog) rise against the faithful and are destroyed by fire.
C. The beloved city is vindicated (Rev 21)
The faithful remnant is restored.
This is Jesus spewing the lukewarm out of His mouth (Rev 3:16).
It is the same covenant act expressed in different symbols.
**Armageddon is God’s covenant response to the faithful who cry,
“How will You deal with the lukewarm believers who persecuted us for righteousness’ sake?”**
6. Final Summary
Revelation 6:9–10 describes believers who are “slain” when their testimony is violently opposed and suppressed by the corrupted covenant community (Babylon). The Greek word sphazō (“to slay”) is used symbolically throughout Revelation to describe the cutting down of witness, not necessarily physical death. Jesus defines this persecution in Matthew 5:11 as reviling, slander, and false accusations — persecution for righteousness’ sake. The faithful cry, “How long?” asking God how He will deal with the lukewarm who suppressed their testimony. God answers through the fall of Babylon, the destruction of Gog–Magog, and the vindication of the beloved city. Armageddon is Jesus spewing the lukewarm out of His mouth — His covenant response to the faithful who suffered for righteousness’ sake.
Thus, Revelation 6:9–10 is not an isolated martyrdom text but the theological foundation for the entire covenant confrontation that follows.
