The “Day of the Lord” is judgment.

A. The Second Coming is “For salvation”, Heb 9:28.

Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

B. If a believer sins willfully and falls away, or goes “out of the way”, they make themselves a “man of sin”, 2 Thess 2:3.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 KJV — Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

2 Thessalonians 2:7 KJV — For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

C. The “Day of the Lord” or discipline from God will not take place unless a Christian “falls away”, 2 Thess 2:3.

Isa 13:6 ¶ Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.

D. Unlike believers, unbelievers are not judged so that they avoid condemnation, 1 Cor 11:32.

Judgment to avoid condemnation is a blessing that unbelievers do not enjoy.

1 Cor 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Jn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

E. Unbelievers have not accepted the New Covenant in Christ’s blood.

F. They are therefore “apart from” or without/outside of the law of God. They will ultimately perish and they are not judged in the same manner as Christians are judged by God, Rm 2:12.

Rm 2:12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. NIV

G. The judgment referred to as the “Day of the Lord” is designed by God to bring a willfully sinful Christian back to obedience, Ez 20:37.

1Co 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Jesus is called a Lion in Rev 5:5 and Hosea 5:14-15. He controls the discipline of His people, 1 Cor 11:32.

1Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

Ezekiel 20:37 KJV — And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant:

1 Thess 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.

H. God judges unbelievers differently from believers.

1Co 5:12 (RSV) For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?

1Co 5:13 But them that are without God judges. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

Am 5:18 Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light.
