The Second Coming is not the Day of the Lord

There is a difference between the Second Coming of Christ and the Day of the Lord.

1. The Second Coming of Christ is “for salvation”, Heb 9:28.

Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many (First Coming); and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time (Second Coming) without sin unto salvation.

Unbelievers do not look for Jesus, they therefore do not experience His Second Coming, so they cannot see/perceive the Kingdom of God, John 3:3.

They do not participate in Jesus Second Coming and are by definition “unbelievers”, by their own choice.

The Second Coming of Christ is when an individual repents from unbelief and God sends Jesus to come into their heart, Acts 3:19-20.

Ac 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 20 And he shall send Jesus Christ (Second Coming) , which before was preached unto you:

Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. (KJV)

2. The “Day of the Lord” is for Judgement. God makes us aware of how he perceives our behavior.

Most Christian people believe that the “Second Coming” is a future event.

This opinion is not based on the bible, but is the result of not recognizing the distinction between the Second Coming and the Day of the Lord.

“The Day of the Lord” is a future point of judgment or evaluation, at this time a person reaps what they have sown (Gal 6:7).

Ga 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (KJV)

The judgment of the “Day of the Lord” is designed by God to guide a Christian into righteous behavior.

The Day of the Lord is a time of Evaluation/Judgment, wherein the Lord allows the Devil (Hell) limited access to a believer’s life in order to promote their correction, 1 Cor 11:32.

The person undergoes the discipline of the “Day of the Lord” until they have learned to receive its correction, Matt 5:26.

Matthew 5:26 KJV — Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

1 Thess 5:2 For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

If at a specific point in time, the Father decides to bring judgment to an individual, that person can either suffer loss as is seen in 1 Cor 3:15,

1Co 3:15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by (Hell) fire. (KJV)

– or-

enter into the Kingdom of God (Rm 14:17) to a greater degree as is seen in Matthew 25:21.

Mt 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Unbelievers do not receive Christ and allow God to lead them into righteous behavior.

They are not judged according to a Covenant that they choose not to be a part of, Rm 5:13.

Ro 5:13 For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed (reckoned) when there is no law.

Ro 2:12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

Recognizing these things clears up many scriptural misunderstandings.
